Nut Allergies

Nut Allergies at Wildern School - supporting our safe school environment

A number of students and staff at Wildern have severe allergies to nuts. It is imperative that there is a strict avoidance of this food in order to prevent a life-threatening allergic reaction and we ask that students and staff do not bring nuts into school to support our safe school environment.

Food allergy is a potentially life-threatening immune response to eating certain foods.

Food Intolerance is an adverse reaction to food that does not involve the immune system and is not life-threatening.

We do not use nuts in any of our food prepared on site at our school. Our suppliers provide us with nut-free products. However, we cannot guarantee freedom from nut traces as some foods are made in factories where nuts are used.

What types of food are nuts?

  • Almonds
  • Cashew nuts
  • Hazelnuts
  • Pistachio nuts
  • Walnuts
  • Brazil nuts
  • Nut oils
  • Peanuts
  • Sesame (not a nut but some people with nut allergies also have an allergy to sesame)

Any exposure to nuts may cause a life-threatening reaction that requires emergency medical treatment. To help reduce the chance of this happening we ask that you do not bring into school or on school trips any products containing nuts.

Parents and carers must notify the school if their child has any known or suspected allergy to nuts and provide all medical information and medication. This will be added to your child’s care plan and where necessary, a meeting organised with our First Aid team.
