Design & Technology

Technology department motto: Inspire, Imagine, Create,

Technology curriculum vision:

‘To have a curriculum which inspires, motivates and maximises the potential of all students by delivering the curriculum and more, through creative and effective lessons in an awe inspiring environment.’

Our department priorities and principles:

  • Historically we have got excellent outcomes with our students, particularly for those students who need a more creative outlet. We pride ourselves on strong student progress
  • Through a high quality curriculum and passionate teaching, we really engage our learners. We have an identity for engaging a wide range of learners, particularly those who are often disengaged in other subject areas and less able
  • High quality practical work is one of our main priorities. All practical work gets completed. Students take pride in what they have made and are eager to take practical outcomes home
  • We share, collaborate and all work very well together
  • We all support each other. Everyone's door is open for help
  • As teaching staff we are all adaptable across the various aspects of our curriculum. We are all open to developing new skills, outside of our main specialism

The technology department aims and curriculum intent

Our long term aim is to produce a thinking, adaptable adult capable of taking his / her place in a changing society. We strive to create a distinctive and dynamic partnership between pupils and staff in the Department through our level of care, concern and professionalism. Thus ensuring that our pupils have developed a broad range of personal attributes and are ready and able to progress into employment, further training or higher education according to their individual aptitudes and ambitions. The Departments general aims are:

  1. To foster creative thinkers.
  2. To instil problem solving skills in our learners.
  3. To stimulate the development of a range of skills that enable students to communicate and realise their ideas.
  4. To promote the development of curiosity, determination, and reflective thinking.
  5. To encourage technological awareness, foster attitudes of co-operation and social responsibility, and develop abilities to enhance the quality of the environment.
  6. Utilise the use of new technologies whenever possible.
  7. To ensure all students have the knowledge and skills to feed themselves and others, nutritiously and affordably.
  8. To instil a sense of pride in what students create, be it food or prototypes.
