Organisation & Groupings

For timetabling the curriculum, students are organised into three or four parallel populations (V), W, X and Y.   The School ethos is 'no bottom set' and most subjects are taught in mixed ability classes.  Some subjects have higher and foundation tiers at GCSE so have broadly set groups throughout Key Stage 3 (Maths and Science).  Maths and Science groups are broadly banded upon entry based on KS2 SAT results. All other subjects are mixed ability.

The considerable information that we collect about students from examinations, teacher assessments and key stage tests enables curriculum areas and Year Leaders to monitor student progress and to be flexible about changing a student’s group where appropriate.
