Student Leadership - 'Every Student Matters, Every Voice Counts'

Student Voice lies at the very heart of everything we do and has a long and well-established practice at Wildern School.  It makes a significant impact on how the school develops and grows. It empowers young people by giving them the opportunity to have their say on school life and make a real and valued difference to the wider life of the school and our local community. Our student leadership programme permeates through school life, from Voting Voice sessions during tutor time to the many Focus groups students can be part of. Students Leadership also plays a key part in contributing to our Rights Respecting School ethos, of which we are extremely proud to be a  UNICEF Gold Accredited school.

There are various aspects to this work which includes:

• Summit – this group consists of our Head Boy, Head Girl & their two deputies along with two representatives from our Focus Groups and Diversity Leaders. They meet half termly with SLT in order to feedback the work of the work they are doing.

• Learning Leaders - these are trained classroom observers who offer observations to our teaching staff, giving invaluable student perspective feedback on the lesson.

• Students as Evaluators – a group of students who meet on a termly basis and work in departments to help review schemes of work and assessments. They help to provide valuable feedback to staff to support the planning of high quality teaching and learning.

•Transition Leaders  – students who are trained across the key stages to support younger students in the school, for example the transition to secondary school. A group of students also run the Big Room once a week to provide a space for students to meet new people.

• Focus Groups – These are groups set up to lead and develop a particular aspect of school improvement. There are 7 groups including; Eco, RRC, Mind Body and Soul, Googlers, Careers and Diversity and E-Safety.  Projects have included the Rotary Shoe Box Appeal, Wellbeing Week, fundraising for Comic Relief, Outrun Cancer, The Big School Clean and so much more!

• Prefects – Selected Year 11 students comprising Head Boy/Girl and deputies, senior prefects and prefects.  These students support the staff in upholding the smooth and safe running of the school.
