Role Overview:
As a Trustee, you will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of the Trust, ensuring accountability, and fostering a culture of excellence. You will work collaboratively with fellow Trustees, the Chief Executive Officer, and senior leaders to ensure the Trust achieves its ambitious goals.

RAISE Education Trust - Trustee Role Profile
1. Introduction
Trustees provide strategic leadership to the Trust. They have legal and strategic responsibility for the Trust, setting the context for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and senior team who are responsible for day-to-day operations. They are both charity trustees and company directors.
2. Purpose of Role
To contribute to the effective governance and strategic direction of RAISE Education Trust, ensuring the Trust fulfills its charitable objectives and provides high-quality education to its students.
3. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
- Contribute to the development and monitoring of the Trust's strategic priorities and goals.
- Understand the key features of effective governance, including tools and techniques for strategic planning, risk management, and change management.
- Be aware of national educational policy and the local education context, and how these apply to the Trust.
Accountability and Assurance:
- Ensure effective governance and accountability across the Trust.
- Hold the executive leadership team to account for effective implementation of the Trust strategy.
- Provide oversight of the Trust's financial management and resources.
- Understand financial management techniques to ensure the integrity of financial information and to establish and monitor robust financial controls.
- Use data to understand school performance and to provide effective challenge to senior leaders.
Compliance:
- Understand the legal, regulatory, and financial context of the Trust.
- Understand the importance of adhering to Trust policies.
- Ensure the Trust complies with the Academy Trust Handbook 2024 [Handbook].
- Adhere to the seven principles of public life (selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership) [Handbook].
- Understand the importance of avoiding, declaring, and appropriately managing conflicts of interest.
Support and Challenge:
- Support and challenge the leadership team to drive school improvement.
- Provide appropriate challenge to ensure that change is in the best interests of children, young people, and the Trust overall.
Ambassadorial Role:
- Act as a champion for the Trust's values and ethos.
- Act as an ambassador for the Trust with a wide range of stakeholders.
Contribution to the Trust Board:
- Attend meetings, read papers, and prepare questions for senior leaders in advance.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with senior leaders and colleagues on the committees and other Governor colleagues as appropriate.
- Get to know the schools within the Trust, including visiting the school occasionally during school hours.
- Undertake induction training and engage in ongoing development.

- Experience in leadership, governance, or a relevant professional field.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Acts with honesty, frankness, and objectivity taking decisions impartially, fairly, and on merit using the best evidence and without discrimination or bias, including challenging the status quo.
- Demonstrates commitment to their role and to active participation in governance, beyond board and committee meetings.
- Willing to acquire the knowledge that they need to be effective in their role, with an ongoing commitment to training and development.
6. Time Commitment
Trustees are expected to attend Trust Board meetings and may also be involved in committee work or other activities. The time commitment will vary but is expected to be approximately 5-7 hours a month.
