Role Overview:

As a Governor on a Local Academy Committee, you will play a crucial role in supporting the school's leadership, monitoring its performance, and ensuring it aligns with the Trust's vision and values. You will work collaboratively with other Governors, the Headteacher, and senior leaders to contribute to school improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor local Human Resources activity and policy.
  • Advise the Trust Board on the application of the school's curriculum policy.
  • Monitor the provision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Monitor the school's annual data and examination results and recommend targets to the Trust Board.
  • Contribute to the whole School Improvement Plan (SiP) and monitor and review its progress.
  • Plan and manage a programme of link Governor visits annually.
  • Monitor the appropriate RAISE Education Trust policies.
  • Monitor the safeguarding policy and practice across the school.
  • Attend meetings, read papers, and prepare questions for senior leaders in advance.
  • Get to know the school, including visiting occasionally during school hours.
  • Qualifications and Experience:
  • A commitment to education and the success of young people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and develop knowledge of educational governance.
  • Knowledge of the local community is desirable.

Time Commitment:

Governors are expected to attend LAC meetings, which occur at least once each term, and may also be involved in other activities such as link visits and training.
