Study Expectations

The conditions for an effective learning environment in the classroom are made known to the students through Study expectations. Over recent years this expectations for effective learning has been developed by staff with the help of students. We emphasis the need for students to be ‚ÄėWilling to Learn‚Äô and ‚ÄėReady to Work‚Äô which means positive attitudes, behaviour and study habits. The expectations are given to all students at the start of the year and sets the standard we expect from students.

During the academic year we have focus weeks when an aspect of our expectations are elected for particular consideration by staff and students.

Equipped for Each Lesson

Preparation starts at home when bags are packed.  Students should arrive at the classroom with:

  • Pencil¬†
  • Ruler¬†
  • Eraser¬†
  • Calculator (Scientific)¬†


  • Sharpener¬†
  • Protractor
  • Pair of Compasses¬†
  • Coloured Pencils¬†
  • Dictionary/Thesaurus¬†
  • French/German/Spanish Dictionary

Some subjects need other special equipment. Subject teachers will tell your child about this.

Above all Students should come with a positive attitude.  

Well Presented Work

Subject teachers may give special instructions regarding work but students should remember to:

  • Underline titles and sub-titles¬†
  • Add the date¬†
  • Always write in black/blue ink and as neatly as possible¬†
  • Check accuracy¬†
  • Draw in pencil¬†
  • Leave a margin on the left¬†
  • Add titles or labels to any diagrams and illustrations¬†
  • Keep work clean

Classroom Habits

Students should :

  • Arrive promptly¬†
  • Be ready to start immediately¬†
  • Listen quietly to the teacher¬†
  • Listen quietly to students talking to the whole class¬†
  • Take care of the classroom and its resources
  • Leave the lesson in an orderly way

Work Check

Students should :

Always spend five minutes checking work. Perhaps someone else could help. The aim is to improve each piece of work that is completed by:-

  • Crossing out any mistake with one neat ruled line and add the correction¬†
  • Using a dictionary to check spellings and subject words in particular¬†

Questions to ask:

  • Have I completed the task?
  • Did I understand what to do?
  • Do I need to ask for help?
  • Is my work neat and organised for others to follow?
  • Is this the best I can do?

Self-study Habits

Self-study is a very important part of learning. Students should find a place where they will not be distracted especially from electronic devices.

They should also remember to:

  • Check Google Classroom fo any set self-stufy
  • Organise their time¬†
  • Use their Student Planner to note down tasks and deadlines¬†
  • Work on their own¬†
  • Use extra time¬†
  • Involve other people at home in what they have to do
